Splenomegaly
caused by viral hepatitis-induced cirrhotic portal hypertension is very common
in clinical practice. Approximately 360 million carriers of hepatitis B virus
(HBV) exist worldwide, and more than half of them are from the Asia-Pacific
region. HBV infection occurs commonly in China, with an incidence of 9.8%.
On
average, 20% of HBV-infected patients develop chronic hepatitis, and 50%
develop cirrhotic portal hypertension. Similarly, there are approximately 170
million carriers of hepatitis C virus (HCV) worldwide, with 40%-50% developing
chronic hepatitis, and 25% developing cirrhotic portal hypertension. In recent
